Customer’s Western Digital Desktop Hard Drive WD40EZRZ was damaged when the desktop computer fell from 2 Feet height while housekeeping cleaning process. The computer was unable to switch on and boot due to issues in desktop hard drive, which was not getting detected. The customer is movie editor, the hard drive contained the current movie original and edited footage’s, 7 months hard work and edited data was in the same drive. The hard drive was submitted to our Lab for data recovery, our team had analyzed that the drive was creating weird noise clicking and scratching, reading component of the hard drive was completed damaged.
Our team have worked on getting same matching hard drives from vendors and clean room laboratory work is involved, which was must for the physically damaged hard drive, which was dismantled in our Lab. The drive damaged components were removed one by one and the working component was assembled from same matching donor hard drive, Read write head and magnets were assembled back to the damaged drive.
The work went further with firmware update and disk initialization, The disk was not responding to the first component exchange, we have decided to the exchange another read write head and undertake alignment of the same. The disk was initialized and we could read the sectors platter to platter and we have completed the data extraction process on same. The total activity took about 17 days of time, the data accuracy was maintained at 92% and customer’s important data was completely recovered.
