Customer had lots of personal information stored in Seagate Mobile HDD Latest model of Expansion hard drive LM Series ST1000LM035 which comes with Rosewood firmware, which comes up with extremely slim version of drive. The drive was damaged while pulling the usb cable during data copy, the drive went into non responding mode and continuous clicking and beeping noise inside the drive. During the first call, our team had suggested not to run the drive by connecting to computer, as it may lead to further damages and internal platter scratches. The hard drive was submitted for analysis, during the analysis phase, our team had tested the components in seagate LM series like Circuit board, Rosewood Locked Firmware codes, and read and write head voltages and reading parameters, we found that the reading heads were damaged and could not read anymore & main cause of clicking noises.
In physical data recovery, the drive needs to be handed by professionals in clean room lab with tools required for handling the media, like platter shifting tools, read / write head removing tools and cleaning materials required if the drive is tapered already from previous company. The customer’s drive was handled by our technical team, and the drive was opened with each component was dismantled from the drive The magnets were removed & reading heads were taken out with ramps for parking was removed from the drive. The similar matching hard drive which was purchased for physical data recovery, the donor drive was dismantled and removed the components which were necessary for shifting to customer’s drive. The drive read write head alignment was done with highest precision.
The drive was taken with firmware code access, wherein the drive was not providing access to the firmware terminal, the Drive was locked, the firmware was Rosewood and our team have unlocked the drive and proceed further for firmware corrections and hence data recovery was continued with disk imaging process, the firmware code errors like
LED Error CC or BD
Dos 0 Error or DOS Error with multiple error counts
MCMT Error or MCMT Corrupted
Partial sector access or Partial data accessibility
No sectors are readable are recoverable.
The LM Series drive models like ST1000LM035 firmware SMB3, ST1000LM045 and so on LM series drives are recovered successfully. The Disk imaging from the drive will be done by accessing individual reading heads and magnetic platter surfaces, the drive was initiated with sector by sector imaging, the data area was accessed and files were rebuild-ed.
